Calcot Spa

Walking into Calcot Spa, all your stresses just melt away! What was I even stressed about again? You're welcomed by happy members of staff, relaxed clients sipping on green tea in the conservatory and a whole glow about the place which makes you feel instantly relaxed. It's easy to see why Calcot is respected as one of the best spa's in The Cotswolds.

This is going to be a good Monday!

Lucy and I, my brothers fiance were given Calcot Spa vouchers for Christmas last year. I can't believe it took us a whole year to pin down some free time for a day of relaxation together. But we finally did! What a day to pick. When do you ever get time to sit and relax at the start of a new week? Never! Yet alone, be pampered. A bright but chilly Monday morning which meant we could enjoy the hot outdoor jacuzzi all afternoon without being rained on.

We left the boys to entertain themselves for the day, which meant a day of golf at Cotswold Edge course. On our arrival at Calcot, we were sat at our reserved table in the conservatory and offered a complimentary hot drink while we filled out the usual forms. Getting those quickly out of the way, we moved onto picking our treatments and lunch. We both went for 55 minute Rose Aromatherapy facials. The cold weather has defiantly bothered my skin lately so I felt in desperate need of a some hydrating.

The lunch menu looked delicious. Lots of super food healthy options and others a little more tempting. We had the choice of soup and main course or main course and dessert.. what's a treat day without chocolate? So we both picked dessert, milk chocolate and hazelnut tart with cappuccino ice cream! For mains, I went for Dorset crab with a spicy noodle salad and for Lucy, cold poached salmon with Wye Valley asparagus, potato and basil salad.

We then moved upstairs to the treatment waiting room. Each room at Calcot is filled with up to date magazines, local and international, large glass dispensers of chilled lemon and lime or cucumber and watercress ice water and comfy seating to start the relaxation process from the word go! The decor throughout Calcot is very tasteful and comfortable but with lots of modern statement pieces.

The Rose Aromatherapy facial was exactly what my skin needed. It was personalised to my skin type, which is tricky to say the least. I have extreme phases of dryness or oiliness so it can be a nightmare to manage. The aromatherapy oils used smelt amazing and worked into my skin beautifully. Leaving it feeling hydrated but not oily at all. The treatment started with a back massage to prepare you for 55 minutes of true relaxation. Followed by a scalp massage then facial including a rehydrating mask, while that worked its magic, I got a surprisingly relaxing arm and hand massage. I honestly walked out the treatment room with confidence that my skin was glowing. That does not happen very often with my troubled skin so I was thrilled with the results!

Then it was time for lunch which was as delicious as it looked on the menu. We treated ourselves to a glass of fizz and enjoyed the slow pace of our day.

After lunch, it was time to throw on our Calcot Spa robes and flip flops and head out into the cold - but not for long! The outdoor jacuzzi was so luxurious. It felt like we were in a different country, not in The Cotswolds. Another glass of prosecco was kindly brought out to us so we sat back and enjoying every second. It felt really magical, a little frost in the air, a huge Christmas tree all lit up next to us and a outdoor fire roaring. You almost felt guilty seeing people working hard in the gym from where we sat, but not that guilty! It was bliss!

Calcot Spa is exactly what you want from a indulgent spa day. It was so good for mind, body and soul, you left without a care in the world and glowing skin. Can I do it all over again this Monday please?

To finish off a lovely day, we spontaneously headed out for dinner with the family to The Wheatsheaf in Northleach, a favourite of mine (read the blog here).

All in all, a pretty perfect start to the week.
